This Privacy Policy explains what information Parivar ("the app") collects, where and how it is stored, how it is protected, when it is shared, and how you can delete it. The app is published by AIQNova Private Limited ("AIQNova", "we", "us"), registered at 101, 1 Floor Dol Bin Shir, Janmabhoomi Marg Fort, Mumbai G.P.O., Mumbai, Mumbai- 400001, Maharashtra By using Parivar you agree to this Policy.
1What data we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work. The table below lists every category of personal data involved, and — importantly — distinguishes between data that reaches our servers and data that is only ever read on your own device.
| Data | Why we need it | Does it reach our servers? |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile number | To create and identify your account, and so relatives who have saved your number can connect with you | Yes |
| Email address (optional) | To recover your account if you change your mobile number | Yes |
| Photos | To show a picture of each family member. Photos you select stay in the app on your device. If you allow full photo access, the app can match a person’s face within your own gallery to suggest photos of them; this matching runs entirely on your device | No — photos remain on your device; only encrypted copies sync if you enable backup |
| Date of birth | To show ages and to remind you of birthdays and anniversaries | Only in encrypted form we cannot read |
| Address | To record where a family member lives and to let you search your tree by city | Only in encrypted form we cannot read |
| Location | Only if you switch on live-location sharing, to show your position to family members you select, for a period you choose | Yes, but only while you are actively sharing, and it is not retained afterwards |
| PIN and reminder hint | To protect access to your account | The PIN is stored only as an irreversible hash we cannot read; the hint is stored as you wrote it |
| Contacts | When you add a family member, we read only the single contact you select | No — never uploaded; your address book is not read or copied |
| Identity documents (optional) | If you choose to scan an Aadhaar or PAN, the text is read on your device to fill in a date of birth and address | No — the document number and image are discarded immediately and never stored or transmitted |
| Technical and security data | Device type, app version, sign-in attempts and rate-limiting records, to operate the service and protect accounts | Yes |
We do not collect: health or medical information, financial information, browsing history, or any data for advertising. We do not use third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking tools.
2Where we save it
- On your device. Your family tree, the photos you add, dates of birth, addresses and relationships are stored on your phone. This is the primary copy.
- On our servers in India. Your account details (mobile number, optional email, PIN hash) and an encrypted copy of your tree used for syncing and recovery. Our servers are hosted in the Mumbai region and your data does not leave India for storage.
- With service providers. Limited technical processing for hosting, SMS delivery, email delivery and push notifications. These providers handle only what is necessary for those functions.
3How we save it
The way your data is stored is the core of Parivar’s privacy design:
- Your family tree is encrypted on your device before it is sent anywhere. We store only the encrypted form. The key that unlocks it is held on your device, not by us. This means we cannot read your family’s names, photos, dates, addresses or relationships, even if we wanted to.
- Your PIN is stored as a one-way cryptographic hash. It cannot be reversed, so nobody at AIQNova can see or recover your PIN.
- Contacts, gallery photos and identity documents are processed on your device only. They are never uploaded in readable form.
- Account details are stored in plain form on our servers because they are needed to sign you in and connect you with relatives — specifically your mobile number and, if you provide it, your email address.
4Security
- All communication between the app and our servers uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Family-tree data is end-to-end encrypted, as described above.
- Access to our systems is restricted, authenticated and audited.
- Sign-in attempts are rate-limited to protect accounts against guessing.
- You can add a further layer by enabling fingerprint or face unlock, and app-lock, in the app’s settings.
An honest limitation: no system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. Because your tree is encrypted with a key held on your device, if you lose access to both your device and your recovery method, we may be unable to restore your data. Please use the in-app export option to keep your own copy.
5Sharing with your consent
Nothing in your family tree is shared with another person unless you take a deliberate action to allow it. There are no public profiles and no open links.
- Joining your tree. When someone asks to join a tree you created, you receive a request and must Approve or Decline it. Nobody is connected automatically.
- Sharing your data with a relative. When another member asks to see your side of the family, you are asked explicitly and must agree. Only then is the encrypted key shared so they can read it.
- Live location. Off by default. You choose exactly who can see you and for how long, and it stops automatically when that period ends. You can stop it at any time.
Please be aware: once you have approved someone, they can see the information you shared. You can stop future sharing, but you cannot un-see what has already been shown. Approve requests only from people you know.
6What we share, and with whom
| Who | What they receive | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Relatives you approve | The parts of your tree you have agreed to share | Your explicit approval in the app |
| Hosting provider | Encrypted data only, which they cannot read | Necessary to operate the service |
| SMS and email providers | Your mobile number or email address, to deliver a message you requested | Necessary to operate the service |
| Push notification service | A device token, to deliver reminders you enabled | Necessary to operate the service |
| Law enforcement or courts | Only what a valid legal order compels us to provide | Legal obligation |
We never: sell your personal data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use your family information to build advertising or behavioural profiles.
7Deleting your information
You control removal at three levels. Each is described below together with how long it takes.
7.1 Removing a person from your tree
You can remove an individual family member you added. When you do, that person’s details and the photos you attached to them are deleted from your device immediately, and the corresponding encrypted records are removed from our servers on the next sync. Relatives with whom you had already shared that information retain their own copy on their devices; we cannot delete data held on another person’s phone.
7.2 Removing a branch of the tree
Where a relative has added their own family beneath themselves, you can remove that branch from your view. This hides or removes the connected group of people in one action rather than one by one. Removing a branch from your tree does not delete those people from the tree belonging to the relative who added them — it is their data, and it remains theirs.
7.3 Deleting your account
You can delete your entire Parivar account from within the app, in Settings. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, so you will be asked to confirm, and we strongly recommend exporting your tree first so that you keep your own copy.
When you delete your account:
- Immediately: your account is closed, you are signed out on all devices, and no one can sign in with that mobile number again.
- Immediately: all Parivar data stored on your own device is erased.
- Within 30 days: your account record and your encrypted tree data are deleted from our active systems.
- Within 90 days: your data is removed from our encrypted backups, which are rotated on that cycle.
- Retained longer only where the law requires it: a minimal record that an account existed and was deleted, and any information we are legally obliged to keep. This contains no family-tree content.
You may also ask us to delete your data by writing to our Grievance Officer (section 12). We will confirm your identity and act within the timelines required by law.
8Who may use Parivar
Parivar is intended only for users aged 18 years and above. We do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18, we will close it and delete the associated account data.
Note on family members: a family tree may naturally contain information about children added by an adult user. That information is entered by the user, is stored in encrypted form, and is not used by us for any purpose. If you are the parent or guardian of a child whose details appear in someone’s tree and you want them removed, contact our Grievance Officer (section 12) and we will act on the request.
9How we use information
We use the limited information we hold only to: operate your account and sign you in; connect you with relatives who have saved your mobile number, subject to the approval steps described in the app; sync your encrypted data between your devices and relatives you have approved; send you the reminders and notifications you have enabled; protect accounts against fraud and abuse; and comply with law.
We do not sell personal data, do not share it with advertisers, and do not use your family information to build advertising profiles.
10How long we keep information
Account information is kept for as long as your account exists. Security and audit logs are kept for a limited period appropriate to their purpose. When you delete your account, the timelines in section 7.3 apply. Data stored on your own device is removed when you delete the app or use the in-app deletion options.
11Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data erased; nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity; and raise a grievance. You can exercise these rights in the app where the relevant options are provided, or by contacting our Grievance Officer (section 12).
12Grievance Officer
In accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applicable Indian rules, you may contact our Grievance Officer with any concern about your personal data:
Email: grievance@aiquantnova.com
Address: 101, 1 Floor Dol Bin Shir, Janmabhoomi Marg Fort, Mumbai G.P.O., Mumbai, Mumbai- 400001, Maharashtra
We will acknowledge and respond to grievances within the timelines required by law.
13Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. The effective date at the top shows when this version was published.
